This is Lila. She reminds me of Curious George, always getting into something.
She has a penchant for climbing.
Her claws help her reach her goals.
Lila, an indoor cat, is fascinated with twine, bugs, and squirrels. She had a chance the other week to go after a squirrel … high up in a tree … when this happened. Lila is the small object perched on a limb in the top right of the following image.
Alexander climbed partway up the tree and called to her. Her thinking seemed to be:
Why should I climb down when the squirrel is taunting me?
Eventually, she made her way down partway, but then stopped. The way down was not clear to her. We enlisted a board to help her see a path. She wasn’t so keen on the board and seemed to want to go higher again. The squirrel was still present.
As dusk started to fall, Lila was more willing to get down, to feel ground under her paws. All of us humans wanted the saga to end without any creature hurting themselves.
This time we hauled the ladder out of the garage. Alexander made his way up the tree, first with the help of the ladder and then freestyle up the last few feet to grab Lila. During this process, Lila herself was also grasping … for the tree! Luckily Alexander was able to contain Lila as they made their way to safe ground.
Didn’t need a firefighter for this rescue. No animals or people were injured. The squirrel is okay AFAIK.
Health roundup
It’s been a tough few weeks.
Knee pain and swelling sent me to the ER on March 17. I was especially concerned because the affected knee is on the same leg as my wound. The pain was off the charts and constant for a week. After my visit to the ER, I met with an orthopedic surgeon, who drained fluid from the knee and ordered an MRI. I’ll see the surgeon again next week to discuss the MRI results.
Wound healing has stalled at 8cm x 8cm. The doctor applied MediHoney—yes, honey—for its wound healing properties.
Colitis treatment has also stalled. Entyvio, the latest infused drug, was a bust. I’ve been trying to get insurance authorization for the next medication—Omvoh—for two months. 😡
Latest CT scan for cancer showed a small suspicious nodule in my right lung. Oncologist ordered the next scan in 3 months instead of 6. I’ll write more about this in a coming post.
Garden watch
It’s such a fun season now in central Texas. I’m enjoying the irises, poppies, winecups and golden groundsel in the yard.
Nice to see Alexander! It has been a long time since we have seen either of your boys.
I’m sorry to learn about your health challenges, Leah. When I see you in your yard, I feel it’s a good indication that you’re improving. I’m enjoying your poppies, too.
