We’ve maintained that Bear is a reasonably intelligent dog, but I guess there are limits to any dog’s intelligence.
If you examine Bear’s lower jaw closely, you’ll see that it is encased by a bone. She had chewed it sufficiently such that the fit was perfect! This morning she very sweetly approached me wanting to say hello, I thought. No crying or whining. When she kept on coming back, I saw the bone, took it off her jaw, and gave the bone back to her. A minute later she returned in the same predicament. After removing the bone and returning it to her three times, I figured the puzzle was a bit over her head. The bone now sits on the countertop out of her reach.
Ella struggled in other ways. Here she sits, her range restricted by a sunflower.
If you know anything about these plants, you understand how brittle the stalks are. A dog of Ella’s size would be able to topple a tall sunflower easily. Ella decided it was better to just rest and wait to be rescued.
Overnight pellet party
One night while Chris and I slept, Cooper, Luna, and Bear were able to break into a plastic bag of dog food — see evidence:
I may have noticed some commotion — three dogs in the house and all — but there was no apparent fighting and all dogs were slumbering after their early morning snacking.
Cooper and Bear had up till that point been a little testy with one another. Not so after the pellet heist. I attribute that bonding experience to Cooper and Bear being able to engage in happy dog fighting the next day.
Not to be outdone: Cats
Friend of the blog Jacob was caring for cats Lila and Alfie when a box of cat food that was delivered and brought inside one day went missing by evening. At approximately 8 pounds (3.6 kg), the cats were not prime suspects. However, after a thorough inspection of the apartment, this evidence was found:
The cats had dragged the box halfway through the apartment, opened the box and then the bag of food. Unlike the dogs, the cats did not finish the food. Thank goodness.
Rabbits should run the world
While Bun does exhibit some destructive behaviors, her ability to maintain composure in the face of tumult is a lesson for us all.
Take a minute to watch her eat and feel your blood pressure decrease.
Hahah, too funny. Mischief makers!
How much do you know about your dogs history?
